First Official Images from THE THING Prequel

The first set of production stills for the upcoming science fiction-horror movie remake are now online; as well as detailed interviews with the cast.

Directed by Matthijs van Heijningen Jr and starring Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Eric Christian Olsen and Joel Edgerton, The Thing is scheduled to hit theaters next July. It is a remake of the widely popular 1982 film by John Carpenter, in which scientists in the Antarctic are confronted by a shape-shifting alien that assumes the appearance of the people that it kills.

Antarctica: an extraordinary continent of awesome beauty. It is also home to an isolated outpost where a discovery full of scientific possibility becomes a mission of survival when an alien is unearthed by a crew of international scientists. The shape-shifting creature, accidentally unleashed at this marooned colony, has the ability to turn itself into a perfect replica of any living being. It can look just like you or me, but inside, it remains inhuman. In the thriller The Thing, paranoia spreads like an epidemic among a group of researchers as they’re infected, one by one, by a mystery from another planet.

Paleontologist Kate Lloyd (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) has traveled to the desolate region for the expedition of her lifetime. Joining a Norwegian scientific team that has stumbled across an extraterrestrial ship buried in the ice, she discovers an organism that seems to have died in the crash eons ago. But it is about to wake up.

When a simple experiment frees the alien from its frozen prison, Kate must join the crew’s pilot, Carter (Joel Edgerton), to keep it from killing them off one at a time. And in this vast, intense land, a parasite that can mimic anything it touches will pit human against human as it tries to survive and flourish.

Interesting to see where this movie goes. Hopefully it will have a similar tone to Carpenter's Thing.

So it's a prequel remake? Wouldn't that rip a hole in the space-time continuum? Haha!

Can't wait for this. Probably the movie I'm anticipating the most over the next few years.

This is a prequel to John Carpenter's The Thing made in 1982. Carpenter's movie is a remake of the 1951 movie The Thing from Another World.

This new movie is set in the Norwegian camp that was the beginning of the 82' movie.

Hopefully that clears things up. Space-time continuum should be safe at this point.

Oh, I know all about both Thing movies and where this fits in. I'm a huge fan of both. Carpenter's The Thing is probably my favorite Sci-Fi horror movie of all time. I just thought it was funny that the title says it's a prequel but the article says it's a remake, haha!

I was going to say this might be the first prequel of a remake, but they did that with Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
