Construction Continues in Manchester for CAPTAIN AMERICA; Props & Sets Revealed
Published: September 18, 2010 - 5:00am
Production crews have been hard at work all week transforming several streets in Manchester, England into 1940's New York City. Check out their progress as well as the numerous antiqued props.
Construction is still underway in an effort to transform several UK locations into 1940s New York City for Captain America: The First Avenger; Marvel Studios' highly anticipated comic book adaptation. The film chronicles the life of Steve Rogers who, through the US Army's secretive Super Soldier Program, becomes the Star Spangled Avenger; Captain America. With principal photography already under way, many random photos from the various sets have begun to appear online. The most notable, of course, being images of a stunt man wearing the Captain America movie costume while riding a motorcycle around the set (which you can view HERE).
Thanks to CAFM.com, we have an idea of how set construction is coming along in the area where an action-heavy scene involving an explosive car chase will soon take place:

Captain America: The First Avenger stars Chris Evans, Hugo Weaving, Tommy Lee Jones, Stanley Tucci, Haley Atwell, Sebastian Stan, Dominic Cooper Toby Jones and Neal McDonough. The film is scheduled for theatrical release on July 22nd, 2011.

On a side note, I've heard MS is spending a lot of $ building these 1940s sets up so they can film extra footage for future use. Makes sense considering the amount of work needed for construction.

Wow! Joe Johnston is really putting great effort into this film. I have no doubt this will be better than Batman Begins.

Look at all of that booze!!!
I know where I'd go if I were an extra!

All this seems fairly irrelevant when compared with news and images related to the Green Lantern movie.

There's no reason to go all negative all of the time with everything Marvel. Green Lantern, Thor, and Captain America will all be very different movies. Each seem to be doing well thus far with the respective thematic elements. Next year is definitely a time of celebration for comic fans: DC and Marvel alike. No need to bog it down with arbitrary comparisons. It sours the whole mood. I say bravo to Campbell, Johnston, and Branagh for all putting the effort into making quality CBMs.
