Magnolia Pictures has picked up the distribution rights to the final installment of Tony Jaa's Ong Bak trilogy and is currently eying a January 2011 release.

Magnet Releasing, a subsidiary of Magnolia Pictures, has been behind the US distribution of several popular foreign films: Neil Marshall’s Centurion, John Woo’s Red Cliff, Swedish horror tale Let the Right One In and the upcoming British alien-themed Monsters.

Today, The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Ong Bak 3, which handles more supernatural elements than the first two films, will be distributed by Magnet/Magnolia as well. The company wishes for a January 2011 release, though nothing concrete has been set.

Ong Bak 3 picks up where Ong Bak 2 had left off. Tien is captured and almost beaten to death before he is saved and brought back to the Kana Khone villagers. There he is taught meditation and how to deal with his Karma, but very soon his arch rival returns challenging Tien for a final duel.

Great more elephants and some guy on martial arts steroids! I love Tony for his amazing stunts, but every damn movie he's in always has to include some Elephant. I would like to see him in an American film. He can be one of the ninjas in Iron Fist Wink

The elephant holds a reverent almost holy place for Thailand. mystical even. So I can understand why a movie that focuses on the mystical and religious aspects of this fighting style will also have elephants in it. I hope that he comes to america and does well.

Yeah I understand the significance of the elephant. It is part of Muay Thai. However, I want Tony in a different film. He has been repeating the same plotlines over and over again. He always has to save an elephant of use it as a prop for his fight scenes. He needs to be in a Comic book film soon Big Grin

Actually I can see him as either Shang Chi or one of the enemies. It is better if he is one of the enemies since his English is not fully developed.
