The first screenshots for the much-anticipated movie tie-in game Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters have finally hit the net.
As previously reported, Rise of the Manhunters will be released on all major gaming consoles and will feature co-op gameplay allowing a second player to take on the role of Hal Jordan's mentor Thaal Sinestro, and a unique combo system allowing the player to create an endless amount of construct combinations.
The Manhunters are an android race, originally created by the Guardians of the Universe to serve as the first interstellar police force. The Manhunters became more obsessed with administering punishment than serving justice, forcing the Guardians to dissolve their ranks. The few Manhunters that survived fled into exile and the Guardians founded a new elite police force called the Green Lantern Corps and armed its members with specially crafted power rings. Now the Manhunters are back and out for revenge, readying their forces for a war against the Guardians and the Green Lantern Corps. Faced with destruction, the Corps is looking to you as the newest recruit, gifted but cocky test pilot Hal Jordon, to protect peace and preserve justice. Building on the anticipation of Warner Bros.' feature film Green Lantern, in theaters June 17, 2011, Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters includes the likeness and voice talent of Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan, who is the star of the upcoming motion picture.
Product Features:
- Master the Ring: Wield the Green Lantern Power Ring to create a spectacular range of "hard-light" constructs including a gatling gun, giant fists, and much more, all of which can be linked together to form an endless number of combinations.
- Stand Together: Join forces with a friend to play as Hal Jordan or Sinestro to battle the Manhunters, with the ability to drop in or out at will.
- Take Flight: Dodge, blast, and destroy legions of enemies as you soar across the universe in battles of intergalactic scope.
Available for purchase June 1st, 2011

Normally I am not interested in superhero games since most of them suck, but this looks really awesome.

I really hope they release some GL related goodies for my Xbox Live avatar... I'd love to see him all dressed up in Hal's uniform

NO SH!@ I actually want WB/DC to do a Superhero collection so you could have your avatar be any DC Character!
These screen shots look cool! Those aren't your father's manhunters! lol Absolutely can not wait for the Co-op!
I wonder what kind of aliens those girls are? The planet looks Qward-ish but we've got some violet light and costumes that look reminiscent of Sapphires and worn by chicks (at least the one getting bitch-slugged) who look sort Zamaron-y.
Hmmm...

Right? Maybe infected by Parallax or something (to explain the yellow in their eyes)?

I think that's a definite possibility.

Well, if the writers are intending to bring the Star Sapphires into the movies at some point and those are the costumes designs they're going with, I may pity the actresses wearing them but also can't wait to see them on!!!

I'm not holding out much hope for this -- though I hope I'm pleasantly surprised -- because it's being made by Double Helix

GL + Co-op + Third Person, I haven't seen anything yet to distract me from how awesome it sounds... also, I think I'm the only person on the planet who doesn't mind movie tie-in games

Damn, I'm going to need a 2nd Mortgage for all this stuff!

Holy Crap! This actually looks cool!!
My main concern when i heard about a Green Lantern game was that it would be like Iron Man, where you had to switch between flying and walking and neither of them worked right.
This looks like a badass brawler. If i dont have to alternate from flying to walking like in Iron Man or those bad Superman games, i will be happy. I want it to be like Mario Galaxy. I walk around and punch dudes, then in the flying scenes it is like Star Fox, where you are on a rail system and you just blast dudes in your sights.
I am fired up!!!

By the way, between this and the Statues that were shown a few days back ,the costume design for Hal looks leaps and bounds beyond what we saw almost a year ago in EW!

Honestly, that sounds terrible! That doesn't sound like it would be fun at all, for me it needs to be a seamless experience. What's wrong with being able to fly whenever you want? For me, I'd rather have a more free-form experience, choosing which planets I fly to in my sector, etc and being able to explore the surface of the planet freely. THAT sounds like fun. A 3rd person action game with flight can be done and it can be done well. I'm drawing a blank right now, but if I think of a good example I'll post it.

The controls would be way too clunky. I would rather it look cool and be fun than have it be mediocre.
I can only imagine it playing like the iron man game. Slow and difficult to maneuver. I would rather them play it safe and make it a good solid fun game.

I'd rather have them figure out good controls rather than gimping the gameplay. It seems like a cop out for actually coming up with good controls. Check out Prototype for xbox, that's a 3rd person action game that does ground and aerial controls and combat well. Granted there's no flying, but if they tweaked the gliding a bit, bam, you've got flight.
