The six-episode prequel to Spartacus: Blood and Sand, stars John Hannah, Lucy Lawless and Peter Mensah as well as new cast members Dustin Clare, Jaime Murray and Marisa Ramirez.
The House of Batiatus is on the rise, basking in the glow of its infamous champion Gannicus, whose skill with a sword is matched only by his thirst for wine and women. These are the times a young Batiatus has been waiting for. Poised to overthrow his father and take control, he’ll freely betray anyone to ensure his gladiators are in the highest demand. And he’ll have his loyal and calculating wife Lucretia by his side for every underhanded scheme, drawing on the brazen talents of her seductive friend Gaia when it counts. Together, they will stop at nothing to deceive the masses, seize power, and bleed Capua dry in this audacious prequel to Spartacus: Blood and Sand. Spartacus: Gods of the Arena premieres Jan. 21 at 10 p.m. ES/PT on Starz.

I'm just a few episodes away from finishing Blood&Sand. i'll honestly say this is one of the BEST series i've ever seen. Amazing character development, great dialog, effects that don't take away from the story and great acting.
It's great to finally see the origins of Crixus, Barca and even Ashur! Seriously, i can't wait!

I just got caught up on Dexter. Is this show worth it?

I haven't seen dexter, so i can't tell you.But i would fully reccomend Blood and Sand. it's very X-rated, with full nudity, CGI Blood, and full on cursing. But that actually adds to the story rather than detracting from it.Go for it.

I wouldn't call it one of the best series. It's over-the-top and the dialog is very caricatured. The show is clearly derivative of HBO's Rome and Snyder's 300, both superior predecessors. Spartacus started off very shallow, but the story and characters got much better developed as it progressed. It's a fun show enjoyable for its explicit obscenity and over-the-top action.
Weird how the prequel still has "Spartacus", but I guess they couldn't ditch that for marketing. It would be cool to see a sequel too. We didn't get to learn his real name!
