Doctor Who, whose new season will be premiering this Fall on BBC and BBC America, stars Matt Smith as the 11th incarnation of The Doctor and Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill as his companions, Amy Pond and Rory Williams.

Doctor Who follows the adventures of the Doctor, the mysterious traveler who journeys through all of time and space, picking up companions along the way and almost always sidestepping danger. Last season delivered record ratings for BBC AMERICA and marked the first time Doctor Who filmed on American soil. Its finale ended with the the Doctor’s greatest escape yet and the intimation of an even greater reckoning to come.
The new season will see the last days of the Ponds, with Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill making their final rollercoaster voyage with The Doctor (Matt Smith). Amy (Karen Gillan) and Rory (Arthur Darvill) have been at the Doctor's side for more than two seasons but what will he do after their heartbreaking departure? New guest stars so far confirmed to star will include David Bradley, Rupert Graves and Mark Williams. Season 7 will then see a dramatic turn of events when The Doctor meets a new friend - the recently-announced new companion, played by Jenna-Louse Coleman.
Matt Smith recently revealed that he will be staying on with Doctor Who at least until the 2014 season. This decision is thanks to writer and showrunner Steven Moffat, who managed to come up with new and original story idea that impressed him:

"When Steven was going to pitch the next season to me not long ago, he said, ‘Are you ready to cry?’ His first episode sounds great. It hasn’t been written yet but the idea is as brilliant and as mental as you’d expect from Steven. So there’s a lot to look forward to.
"We want to do 50 years — and everyone that’s been associated with the show — justice. We want to go, ‘Look, world, here is Doctor Who. It’s 50 years old, a science-fiction show, still going and going from strength to strength’. Steven will do something brilliant. He’ll do something grand or maybe something very simple but he’ll come to it as a fan."
Doctor Who returns for a seventh season this Fall on BBC and BBC America.
