A sequel to the hit comic book based, R-rated action film in prepping to begin production with Jeff Wadlow (Never Back Down) in the director's chair.

Kick-Ass 2, due for release in the summer of 2013, is directed by Jeff Wadlow (Never Back Down). Based on the follow up comic Kick-Ass 2: Balls to the Wall by writer Mark Millar and artist John Romita Jr., the story follows the title character -- several months after the events of the last film -- who is trying to form a team of "real life" superheroes, while concurrently preparing for the arrival of The Red Mist; an enemy character who has been gathering a team of "supervillains" in order to defeat both Kick-Ass and Hit-Girl.

The film will feature Aaron Johnson, Chloe Moretz and Christopher Mintz-Plasse back in their roles as Kick-Ass Hit Girl and Red Mist, respectively. They are joined by newcomers John Leguizamo and Donald Faison. Nicholas Cage will reprise his role as Big Daddy, but it has yet to be revealed in what capacity.
Robert Emms (Warhorse) has joined the film's cast to play Insect Man, a cop who became a costumed vigilante and member of hero team Justice Forever after being disillusioned by the lack of competence in the police department. Morris Chestnut has also signed onto the project for the role of Hit-Girl's guardian Marcus (played in the first film by Omari Hardwick).
Universal Pictures has also revealed the film's release date, which has been set for June 28th, 2013.
