Jeremy Renner in Talks to Be the New Snake Plissken

Jeremy Renner (The Hurt Locker, The Town) has been offered the lead in the upcoming remake of the classic post apocalyptic Escape From New York.

Breck Eisner (Sahara, The Crazies (2010)) is set to direct the remake of the 1981 John Carpenter cult classic with a script by Allan Loeb (Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps).

If Renner takes the role he will have to fill the shoes of a character of iconic status made famous by an eye-patch wearing Kurt Russell in both Escape from New York and it's sequel Escape from LA. Previous leading men that were rumored to have been offered the role of Snake in Eisner's remake were Gerard Butler and Timothy Olyphant.

If Renner does end up becoming the new Snake, filming wouldn't begin until the first quarter of 2011 so it shouldn't interfere with his role as Hawkeye in the upcoming The Avengers. The remake of Escape from New York is scheduled to hit theaters in 2012.

Clearly we have come to an impasse in Hollywood. Am I the only one that is tired of remakes?

I'll have to pass. This remake is completely unnecessary.

4 of the films on the main page are remakes (Tron being a "sequel"). More are on the way.
