The narrative architect behind the Bourne film series, Tony Gilroy, takes the helm in the next chapter of the hugely popular espionage franchise that has earned almost $1 billion at the global box office: The Bourne Legacy. The writer/director expands the Bourne universe created by Robert Ludlum with an original story that introduces us to a new hero (Jeremy Renner) whose life-or-death stakes have been triggered by the events of the first three films.

The Bourne Legacy is directed by Tony Gilroy and stars Jeremy Renner, Rachel Weisz, Edward Norton, Oscar Isaac, Albert Finney, Joan Allen, Stacy Keach, David Strathairn and Scott Glenn. Universal Pictures had previously scheduled the film for theatrical release on August 3rd, 2012, but they have now moved the date back one week to August 10th. This is reportedly due to their concern about box office performance if the film were to compete with Warner Bros' The Dark Knight Rises, which is scheduled for release the week prior, and Columbia Pictures' Total Recall, which hits on August 3rd.
