A sequel to the comic book based, R-rated action film Kick-Ass was greenlit back in September of last year, with Matthew Vaughn announced to return to the director's chair for project which at the time had a theatrical release scheduled for 2012. The film would be loosely based on the follow up comicKick-Ass 2: Balls to the Wall by writer Mark Millar and artist John Romita Jr. Last year, Vaughn left the production after it continued to be delayed and Jeff Wadlow (Never Back Down) was tapped to replace him.

Now it's been revealed that Universal Pictures is finalizing deals to bring Aaron Johnson, Chloe Moretz and Christopher Mintz-Plasse back for the second installment. Nicholas Cage is also being sought for a cameo role. Moretz was recently seen alongside Johnny Depp in Tim Burton's Dark Shadows, and Johnson will next star in director Oliver Stone's crime thriller Savages.

At this time there is no theatrical release date scheduled for Kick-Ass 2 but the studio is currently eyeing the summer of 2013.
