FIRST LOOK: Chris Evans as Captain America on the Cover of Entertainment Weekly
Published: October 28, 2010 - 6:54am
Marvel fans have been waiting a long time to see the former Human Torch is full Captain America glory, and the wait is finally over. Entertainment Weekly has released the cover for their next week's issue showcasing the Star Spangled Avenger.
"At the time, I remember telling a buddy of mine, ‘If the movie bombs, I’m f—-ed. If the movie hits, I’m f—-ed!’” Evans recalled about his hesitation in donning the mantle of Captain America for Marvel Studios.
“I was just scared. I realized my whole decision making process was fear based, and you never want to make a decision out of fear. I can’t believe was almost too chicken to play Captain America.”

The film's director, Joe Johnston, has been rather quiet about it's progress since principal photography began last month; but he did offer this statement to hungry fans:
“The interesting thing about this character is that he’s an everyman who in the course of a few minutes become a perfect human specimen. That has to create some interesting personal issues. I saw it as an opportunity to make a superhero movie that felt real, that didn’t have to rely on an overabundance of fantasy elements.”
The year is 1942, and Steve Rogers is a scrawny lad who desperately wants to fight Nazis for his country but can’t because he’s been deemed physically unfit. His fate — and his physique — is radically transformed when he signs up for Project: Rebirth, a secret military operation that turns wimps into studs using drugs and assorted sci-fi hoo-ha. There’s a love interest (Major Peggy Carter, played Haley Atwell), there’s a sidekick (Bucky Barnes, played by Sebastian Stans), and there’s the Red Skull (Hugo Weaving), Hitler’s treacherous head of advanced weaponry, whose own plan for world domination involves a magical object known as The Tesseract (comic fans know it better as The Cosmic Cube).
Captain America: The First Avenger stars Chris Evans, Hugo Weaving, Tommy Lee Jones, Stanley Tucci, Haley Atwell, Sebastian Stan, Dominic Cooper Toby Jones and Neal McDonough. The film is scheduled for theatrical release on July 22nd, 2011.

LESS visual information in the suit could really be MORE.
It looks like a strange combination of ST-TNG + Batman Begins + U.S.A. flag:
Boy October
I like it. I hope that that's the final uniform for this film. I don't want him to look too modern in it. I want the modern, less soldier look for "The Avengers" and his sequels.
Samaritan
He looks great! Cap is set to be one amazing CBM.

Not too shabby, actually. I would still like to see a helmet shot, and by helmet, I mean the one he puts on his head, and by head, I mean the one attached to his neck.
Hopefully the final uniform/costume at the end of the film has him in his mail suit, all prepped for The Avengers.
But still, this looks good, and by good, I mean thanks for the article Poni. Glad you're back.

Very nice. I actually like the dirty blond over a bleached blond, it's more "40's".

They are already making part 2, "Captn A: The beginning"

I like
Cant wait to see it as a whole. I'm more nervous about the tone of the movie then something as petty as his hair color lol

I like it.

But I like the irony of a blond haired, blue eyed superhuman beating up Nazis. I do hope it's more serious and gritty than previous Marvel films. It could turn the wrong direction into a lite version of Inglourious Basterds.

I love the irony as well.
That would be cool if the basterds had a cameo LOL!!

I'm looking forward to seeing how functional this suit is in action.
I'm still more in anticipation to see him in classic 616 costume, even if its only for one scene or so.

Red Skull: He is a golem!
SS General: Another American.
Red Skull: Nein, nein, nein, nein! Another Bear Jew.

Wow... He definitely looks like Steve Rogers. I admit I'm impressed. With every new thing they bring out for Captain America the more I am actually getting a bit excited to see a trailer.

Chris Evans DOES have blue eyes and I know don't, a superhero with bright blond hair probably won't look very heroic-like.

Thanks for the clarification. This looks great. Evans really has that 1940's doughboy look. I like the hair color. It'll give some visual contrast to Thor in the Avengers. The costume looks great as well and, also, functional. Bravo to the costume design team that stayed true to the comics for the most part without making him look cheesy. Instead of modern gritty, I was kind of hoping for a tone much like the old John Wayne era war films.

The new images just released from within the Entertainment Weekly article drive it home even more that Evans appears to be an excellent Captain America and the film looks to be very promising! I have all the faith that he will deliver on the acting side of things. I also agree that too blonde of hair wouldn't work as well. I mentioned months ago that they just need to highlight his hair and that he wouldn't look good as a full blonde. Glad they didn't go that route.

I wonder if Tony Stark will revise Cap's uniform for Avengers... like father, like son
It'd be cool to see them use a similar stile, but maybe have Tony give him the more "scale" look.

eeeeeexcellent

Chris Evans is doing some kind of G.I.JOE's Duke face style in this cover shot?
