David Mamet will write and direct the movie that looks to focus on Spector's later years. Recently Spector has been behind bars at the age of 70 after he was found guilty for the murder of actress Lana Clarkson. Spector was convicted of shooting the woman in his mansion in 2003. Spector's lawyers are still trying to release him from prison over seven years later.

A famous story involving Spector while he was producing The Ramones' album End of the Century involved the nutty record producer forcing the band to get the opening cord of "Rock and Roll Highschool" just right by making them play it 8 hours straight. When the band tried to leave Spector's studio, he pulled a gun on them and forced them to play the 1963 Ronettes hit “Baby I Love You.”

The as of yet untitled film will debut only on HBO; more details to come.
