GREEN LANTERN Trailer to Premiere Before new HARRY POTTER Film

DC writer and Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns announced today at the New York Comic-Con that the trailer for Green Lantern will debut before Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows pt.I. He also commented on Justice League film possibilities and other DC projects.

There is no word on if the trailer will simply be a teaser or contain actual footage, so stay tuned for more details. The new Harry Potter hits theaters November 19th. Green Lantern will hit theaters June 17th, 2011.

Johns also commented on rumors of early planning for a Justice League film and said that he hopes the DC Universe focuses on the single franchises first.

"I'm going to speak frankly: I think our characters are bigger than Marvel's.We'd rather spend time building each character on his or her own rather than smashing them together," said Johns.

He also commented on the recently announced addition of Zack Snyder to helm the new Superman movie.

"I don't think you can hope for much more than Christopher Nolan and Zack Snyder. He'll be punching something," said Johns.

He also stuttered a bit when asked about the existence of a Flash movie in the works only saying, "That would be cool," but insinuating there may be more plans for such a project behind his few words.

Okay, can we finally put this thing to rest. WB doesn't care about making a DCU on film. Their movies may not culminate in a JLA movie! If it happens great but it's not a competition just because Marvel has chosen to go in that direction. I would rather see a trilogy of GL movies, Supes, Bats, WW or Flash movies. I could care less if they end up leading to a JLA movie. This whole idea that CBM's need to lead to a team up or even acknowledge each other as if it's some sort of rule that's always been written in the universe is ridiculous!
Just make good movies!! Nolans Batman sure as hell didn't suffer because it wasn't tying into a JLA movie but it clearly would have if it were.
I would argue that Marvel has now trapped themselves in an Avengers box. They've limited what their characters film potential could be. Sure the movies are good (or at least decent) and the Avengers will probably rock but each of their movies should have the tagline "Prelude to Avengers". It's the choice they made but that doesn't mean WB has to and I for one, prefer they don't. Thank you Geoff Johns for agreeing.

"He'll be punching something"

Haha, awesome. I'm willing to bet that DC does a JLA movie, but they'll wait until they've thoroughly established each character.

Maybe instead of a team-up movie, they'll just have a lot of cameos, that'd be pretty awesome.

I still wouldn't say DC is against a JLA movie. They'll just do it when they run out of ideas for solo movies. I don't even know how interested I am in a team movie because it's difficult to give each character their due. We'll see how Avengers does. Johns does have a point in that Marvel may be using up their best ideas too fast. Each character does have a lot of potential stories and the early formation of each hero is among the most interesting to tell. However, because we fans are so familiar with those, we want to see something bigger. I think DC is doing the right thing by focusing on what stories they can tell rather than going for mere spectacle. It would be nice though if they made cross-references just to tease at the possibility of a DCU.

Nice one Johns. Each Marvel character does and will have their own franchises before and after the Avengers. The Avengers is just a way to bring them all together from their own franchises. So far, no major character have even cameo'd in another characters film (unless you count Stark after TIH), and I doubt they will in Thor or Cap either. Plus, I'm sure DC will do a JLA down the road.

I don't believe what DC says about their movies until they actually do it. They said 2 movies a year after Harry Potter is done...well we shall see. I really hope they do, they could make for some great movies

Happy to hear that Superman will finally be smashing something/villain like he should be. Returns severely lacked that aspect.

I do have to say I'm really siked about the GL trailer/teaser coming soon though. Does this mean we will have a Thor teaser/trailer coming soon too? Hope so!

WHO are you, Mr. lucky!? What about those scars in Sinestro's face?

Yeah, I was lucky. I was leaving the Con and as I am walking out I see Geoff Johns just standing there by himself. I asked him if he could sign some stuff for me and then he signed a bunch of my GL hardcovers. Then I started telling him how much I am looking forward to the movie and how I look around everyday for any bits of news. Then he said "check this out" and showed me a pic of him with Sinestro. Other than telling him how great it looked we didn't really talk about it, I didn't want to bother him too much. Sinestro's hair came to a point at the front and he had pointed ears.Me and Geoff Johns
