Stan Lee to Create New Heroes...for the NHL?

Comic book legend Stan Lee has announced his latest endeavor, "The Guardian Project". Lee will create new heroes, one per city, for the National Hockey League. Each hero will be based on the team that resides in that city, and the heroes will collectively form the 'Guardians'.

The NHL has posted an official statement with a link to the site for the Guardian Project.

The site goes active at 12:01 AM Friday, October 8, and an official announcement is planned during the New York Comic Con. A teaser package will also be previewed to the media during the conference.

The NHL press release states that the heroes will be inspired by the teams and by the game, but that the project will not be based in the world of hockey.

"I've always believed that every great plan starts with a great story," Lee said. "In the creation of Guardian Media Entertainment and its unique and unprecedented relationship with the NHL, I truly believe we have the perfect combination from which to launch 30 new superheroes and excite young fans around the globe."

Guardian Media Entertainment (the joint company formed by Lee and the NHL) will be utilizing the same motion capture technology used in Iron Man 2 to bring the characters to life for their debut at the NHL All-Star Game on January 30, 2011 in Raleigh, N.C.
