A follow up to this summer's sci-fi prequel to director Ridley Scott's Alien film franchise is said to be moving forward but will have to find a new screenwriter.
Directed by Scott, Prometheus starred Noomi Rapace (Sherlock Holmes 2), Michael Fassbender (X-Men: First Class), Charlize Theron (Monster), Idris Elba (Thor), Rafe Spall, Guy Pearce (Memento) and Logan Marshall-Green. The R-rated film received generally favorable reviews and garnered approximately $303 million at the box office (worldwide).
According to The Hollywood Reporter, 20th Century Fox is working on green lighting a second installment of the property with director Scott attached along with actors Fassbender and Rapace (who both have sequel obligations in their contracts). It's also being reported that screenwriter Damon Lindelof, who is credited with the final script treatment, won't be returning.
Fox president of production Emma Watts offered this comment: "Ridley is incredibly excited about the movie, but we have to get it right. We can't rush it."
Visionary filmmaker Ridley Scott returns to the genre he helped define, creating an original science fiction epic set in the most dangerous corners of the universe. The film takes a team of scientists and explorers on a thrilling journey that will test their physical and mental limits and strand them on a distant world, where they will discover the answers to our most profound questions and to life’s ultimate mystery.
