The Walking Dead tells the story of the weeks and months that follow a pandemic zombie apocalypse. County Sheriff Rick Grimes travels with his family and a small group of survivors, constantly in search of a safe and secure home. But the constant pressure of fighting off death on a daily basis takes a heavy toll, sending many to the lowest depths of human cruelty. As Rick struggles to keep his family alive, he will discover that the overwhelming fear of the survivors can be far more dangerous than the mindless walkers roaming the earth.

The final episode of The Walking Dead season two teased the introduction of two major storylines that will explored later this year when the series returns to AMC. The first being the addition of Danai Gurira in the role of the sword-wielding comic book character Michonne, who saved Andrea (Laurie Holden) from a ravenous zombie; the second is the introduction of the prison -- pictured to the right in both TV and comic book form -- which will serve as the sanctuary for the primary band of survivors lead by Andrew Lincoln.

New details have now emerged in regards to how this season will introduce another important character -- that of The Governor which will be played by David Morrissey -- courtesy of location manager Mike Riley, who says the majority of filming will take place at Raleigh Studio in Senoia, Georgia that will act as the inside of a heavily fortified town. "Inside the wall is a the safe zone and a benevolent dictator runs the town."

OnLocationVacations reports that 'the show’s crew will construct a temporary, movable wall meant to look like a gate stacked with items such as old tires and doors that can be used along the area of Main Street and Travis Street. The main set in Senoia will be located on Main Street, from Seavy Street to Travis Street in Senoia. The set may also extend from Seavy to Johnson Street.'

“Senoia will be a major set for next season. This (third season) is long-term," explained Riley. "We’ll be here until November. It is important that Senoia not just be a backdrop. We’ll come up with some ways to make the city feel like they’re a part of the it. We couldn’t do this without the city. I think fans will show up during and after (the production) and again next year for that season if the ratings are good.”

AMC's Emmy Award-winning series The Walking Dead is directed by Glen Mazzara and based on the acclaimed comic book series by Robert Kirkman and Charlie Adlard. The upcoming season will star Andrew Lincoln, Sarah Wayne Callies, Laurie Holden, Jeffrey DeMunn, Steven Yeun, Chandler Riggs, David Morrissey, Danai Gurira and Norman Reedus and is slated to begin production on May 31st, 2012.
