Keven's Music Review: GRAFFITI6 – Colours

There's a lot going on with Graffiti6. At times I get a Radiohead vibe, then I'm feeling some sort of Maroon 5 influence and even R&B elements, but when 'Colours' eventually winds down, despite my confusion, I'm still satisfied.

When I listen to 'Goodbye Geoffrey Drake' I'm nearly transported back through time as this bluesy tune grips my brain in such subtle but effective ways. Then I throw on 'Stone in My Heart' or 'Stare into The Sun' and I get this pop rock indie new wave sound that would usually piss me right off, but it works here. Singer Jamie Scott has a fantastic voice and my only criticism is that it sometimes sounds a little too subdued by the music. He sounds like a hybrid of Maroon 5's Adam Levine and the Black Keys' Dan Auerbach.

'Colours' has some absolutely stellar tracks but the 'quietness' of Graffiti6 may not appeal to everyone. They have this laid back quality that doesn't immediately hit the listener in the face, but when you relax and lose yourself in the album – everything works out terrifically. I also want to say that album closer 'Over You' is the best track on the record and it's a masterful ballad that should be a modern day classic with the right push and support from radioplay.

Graffiti6 did lose me at times, with songs like 'Calm The Storm' dragging on a little too much. 'Colours' did not blow me away during the first playthrough, but the second time I turned it on I had the same feeling I did when listening to Coldplay's last record. I was transported to this crazy acid trip fairy tale paradise and I just went with the flow and lost myself to this laid back beautiful music.

'Colours' is music happy drugs and I highly recommend you take a dose right now, but I will warn you that there may be side effects including 'drowsiness' and 'split personality disorder'.
