Official RESIDENT EVIL: RETRIBUTION Synopsis Released

The fifth installment of the popular film franchise which is currently shooting in Canada is scheduled for 3D theatrical release on September 14th, 2012.

Director Paul W.S. Anderson will return to helm Resident Evil: Retribution, while Milla Jovovich and Sienna Guillory will be reprising their roles as Alice and Jill Valentine. Punisher War Zone actor Colin Salmon has also been confirmed to appear alongside Michelle Rodriguez, Boris Kodjoe, Oded Fehr and Shawn Roberts; all veterans of the film franchise. Johann Urb (as Leon Kennedy), Boris Kodjoe, Chinese actress Li Bingbing (as Ada Wong) and Kevin Durand will also star.

Characters from the previous films Chris Redfield (Wentworth Miller), Claire Redfield (Ali Larter) and K-mart (Spencer Locke) have been captured by the Umbrella Corporation. Retribution will also introduce the Las Plagas parasite, a breed of parasitic organisms in the Resident Evil games. Unlike the t-virus, which turned its victims into mindless zombies, the victims of Las Plagas become much stronger and highly resistant to pain, while working collectively to pursue their targets.

Screen Gems and Sony Pictures have scheduled Resident Evil: Retribution for theatrical release on September 14th, 2012, and have now revealed the film's official plot synopsis:

The Umbrella Corporation’s deadly T-virus continues to ravage the Earth, transforming the global population into legions of the flesh eating Undead. The human race’s last and only hope, Alice (Milla Jovovich), awakens in the heart of Umbrella’s most clandestine operations facility and unveils more of her mysterious past as she delves further into the complex.

Without a safe haven, Alice continues to hunt those responsible for the outbreak; a chase that takes her from Tokyo to New York, Washington, D.C. and Moscow, culminating in a mind-blowing revelation that will force her to rethink everything that she once thought to be true. Aided by newfound allies and familiar friends, Alice must fight to survive long enough to escape a hostile world on the brink of oblivion. The countdown has begun.
