Vin Diesel Confirms Two More FAST AND THE FURIOUS Movies in the Works

After this past summer's Fast Five exceeded financial and critical expectations its studio and director Justin Lin quickly began planning to continue the series, and now franchise star Diesel commented on the next two films.

Word began circulating several months ago that the Universal Pictures wants director Justin Lin to shoot both the sixth -- which is scheduled for theatrical release on May 24, 2013 -- installment and seventh back-to-back. Lin, who recently left the helm of the next Terminator film to focus on the yet to be officially titled Fast and the Furious 6. Action star Jason Statham has also been rumored to play a part in the upcoming project.

Vin Diesel, who starred in three of the past five films (and cameoed in one other), recently commented on the status of the franchise's future and noted that the next two projects may actually be one storyline:

“With the success of this last one, and the inclusion of so many characters, and the broadening of scope, when we were sitting down to figure out what would fit into the real estate of number six, we didn’t have enough space.

"We have to pay off this story, we have to service all of these character relationships, and when we started mapping all that out it just went beyond 110 pages. The studio said, ‘You can’t fit all that story in one damn movie!'"

The latest installment of the franchise, Fast Five, starred Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Jordana Brewster, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Tyrese Gibson, Sung Kang, Gal Gadot, Matt Schulze, Tego Calderon, Don Omar, Elsa Pataky, Joaquim De Almeida and Dwayne Johnson. Also directed Justin Lin (Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift), Fast Five is now available to own on Blu-ray and DVD.
