AMERICAN HORROR STORY Season Finale Details, Image Gallery & Hints for Season Two

The shocking new horror-thriller series stars Dylan McDermott, Connie Britton, Taissa Farmiga, Evan Peters and Jessica Lange. The season finale airs exclusively on FX, December 21st, Wednesday night; Check out what creator Ryan Murphy had to say about it and more.

The thriller centers on husband and wife Ben (Dylan McDermott) and Vivien Harmon (Connie Britton) who move their family from Boston to a haunted San Francisco home in an attempt to rebuild their family after a miscarriage and affair.

American Horror Story co-creator Ryan Murphy reflected on the season's penultimate episode 'Birth' and how it leads into the season finale 'Afterbirth'. Fans have yet to see the baby that came out alive after Vivien died during childbirth, along with one of the twins. "I think the baby Antichrist thing is very funny, too. Just because Billie Dean says that’s what it is, that doesn’t mean that’s what it is," said Murphy.

"You do see that baby quite heavily (in the finale). I think the finale has, to me, the most shocking scene we’ve ever done. Every time I edit it, I literally have to cover my eyes. The finale really does have a couple shockers in it that I think people will love."

Now that both his wife Vivian (Connie Britton) and daughter (Taissa Farmiga) have died in the house, the season finale will focus on how Ben (Dylan McDermott) copes with the birth, ghosts and his family's passing.

"It’s a longer episode for us. It’s sort of an extended version. The final episode was built around the Dylan dilemma: Your beloved wife and your daughter are dead and you know that and you personally feel responsible — what do you do? Do you go? Do you stay? Do you bring people in to help you contact them? We deal with what’s going to happen to this family. And then we deal of course with what happened to the baby? And what is Constance going to do? Constance is a survivor, so how is she going to survive this chain of events? What is she going to do? Also, what’s going to happen to that house?"

Murphy also revealed that he thinks fans will have a good idea of where the second season is headed. After such a death-filled and shocker of a debut season, many are wondering where the series goes from here and it's not even over yet. "I think that when people watch the finale next week that they will definitely have a sense of where the series is headed, but if they don’t, I will be happy to tell them. Yes, I think people will have an idea."

American Horror Story stars Dylan McDermott, Connie Britton, Taissa Farmiga, Evan Peters, Jessica Lange, Frances Conroy, Alexandra Breckinridge, Zachary Quinto and Dennis O'Hare.Glee co-creators Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk serve as executive producers on the project which airs exclusively on FX every Wednesday.
