THOR 2 Unexpectedly Loses MONSTER Director Patty Jenkins
Although confirmed via press release earlier this year, Monster director Patty Jenkins has left the production team of Marvel Studios' follow-up to the hit film starring Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman and Tom Hiddleston.
Marvel Studios announced several months ago that Patty Jenkins, who previously directed MONSTER starring Charlize Theron and received an Emmy nomination for directing the pilot of AMC’s acclaimed series The Killing, will direct THOR 2; Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman are slated to return to star in the film along with Tom Hiddleston.
It's now been revealed that Jenkins has exited the project; no explanation outside of "creative differences" was revealed as to why. Marvel Studios is hurriedly searching for a replacement for the film which is scheduled to begin filming early next year in preparation for theatrical release Friday, November 15, 2013. In addition to THOR 2, Marvel Studios is currently scheduled to release MARVEL’S THE AVENGERS on May 4, 2012, and IRON MAN 3 which is slated for release on May 3, 2013.
Paramount Pictures and Marvel Entertainment present the epic adventure, "Thor," which spans the Marvel Universe from present day Earth to the realm of Asgard. At the center of the story is the mighty Thor, a powerful but arrogant warrior whose reckless actions reignite an ancient war. Thor is cast down to Earth by his father Odin and is forced to live among humans. A beautiful, young scientist, Jane Foster, has a profound effect on Thor, as she ultimately becomes his first love. It’s while here on Earth that Thor learns what it takes to be a true hero when the most dangerous villain of his world sends the darkest forces of Asgard to invade Earth.

Too bad, I was looking forward to seeing her perspective on the sequel. Here's hoping they get someone just as intriguing to ultimately direct it

What I liked most about her attachment to the film was the drastic difference in tone/feel it would have had to Branagh's. But if all else fails go for an action-oriented director, that's an aspect the first film was lacking IMO

Yeah, I agree. While I enjoyed the movie overall, the Thor/Destroyer fight was over in the blink of an eye. I know he had to move on to Loki, but I still felt a bit cheated out of a potentially awesome fight scene (a la IM2 and the end Whiplash fight).

I would go for Mike Newell (Prince of Persia) or David Yates (Harry Potter) if either of them is free. Throw money if need be, they can handle action well without making it Michael Bay-overbearing

David Yates would be a great choice, I've really enjoyed his Harry Potter films. I feel like Brad Bird might be an interesting choice too. I've never been a big Mission Impossible fan, but I have to say I'm intrigued by the trailers for the new one. Though I'm not sure if he's got a lot on his plate in the near future

The show's musical namesake, Def Leppard's rock of ages tickets, is not included in the attain as the producer couldn't get the license for any of their songs.
