FilmDistrict to Distribute RED DAWN Remake Starring Chris Hemsworth & Adrianne Palicki

A deal is in the works to get director Dan Bradley's remake of the 1980's cult classic film into theaters sometime in 2012.
Starring Chris Hemsworth, Josh Hutcherson, Adrianne Palicki, Isabel Lucas, Edwin Hodge and Alyssa Diaz, Red Dawn follows a group of teenagers looking to save their town from an invasion of foreign soldiers by taking refuge in the woods and going on the offensive. Unlike the 1984 film which pitted the teens against the Russians, the new band of "Wolverines" (the nickname the group calls themselves) were to take on Chinese invaders. Recently it was revealed that -- even though the film's distribution was already delayed due to Metro Goldwyn Mayer’s financial difficulties -- the project was to get a digital post-production overhaul that would switch of the film's antagonists from Chinese to North Koreans.
Now that the drastic and expensive conversion is said to be complete, FilmDistrict is currently negotiating for distribution rights. The company -- whose most recent release was the Ryan Gospling headlined Drive -- has not set a solid theatrical release date for Red Dawn but Chief Executive Peter Schlessel stated that it should be sometime in 2012.
