Mark Wahlberg Negotiating Role in 2 GUNS Comic Book Adaptation

The Fighter star may reunite with David O. Russell who is set to rewrite and direct the BOOM! Studios comic adaption about a DEA agent and Naval Intelligence officer that pursue and, eventually, team up with each other in a convoluted heist. Vince Vaughn is already attached to co-star.

Based on the comic of the same name by BOOM! Studios, 2 Guns follows a DEA agent named Trench and undercover Naval Intelligence officer Steadman, who, unaware of each other's real professions, team together to steal money from the mob. Unfortunately, the twists continue as the $50 million they stole actually belongs to the CIA. Back in 2008, Universal attempted to move forward with the project and signed actor Vince Vaughn to star. Screenwriter Blake Masters penned the first draft of the script, which was eventually passed on by the studio.

David O. Russell has been pinned as the man who will rewrite the 2 Guns script and helm the film, with BOOM! Studios co-founders Andrew Crosby and Ross Richie set to produce. Russell's latest film, The Fighter, is generating enormous Oscar-buzz, and was set to bring the widely popular video game franchise Uncharted to the silver screen, but eventually left the project. If both deals work out, 2 Guns will be a reunion for the director and Mark Wahlberg.
