PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: ON STRANGER TIDES Crosses $1 Billion Box Office Mark
Published: July 2, 2011 - 7:06pm
From Walt Disney Pictures and director Jerry Bruckheimer, the fourth installment of the popular Pirates of the Caribbean film franchise has become the eighth film to gross the international top dollar mark.

Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) crosses paths with a woman from his past (Penelope Cruz), and he’s not sure if it’s love–or if she’s a ruthless con artist who’s using him to find the fabled Fountain of Youth. When she forces him aboard the Queen Anne’s Revenge, the ship of the formidable pirate Blackbeard (Ian McShane), Jack finds himself on an unexpected adventure in which he doesn’t know who to fear more: Blackbeard or the woman from his past.

This weekend notes another milestone for Walt Disney Pictures as Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides has now grossed over $1 billion at the international box office. It is the second film in the Pirates franchise to attain the far reaching goal, following Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest in 2006. Last year two other Disney films, Alice in Wonderland and Toy Story 3, also claimed billion dollar status, giving the studio four out of the eight films to have passed the mark.
Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides is directed by Rob Marshall and stars Johnny Depp, Penelope Cruz, Ian McShane, Geoffrey Rush, Kevin McNally, Astrid Bergès-Frisbey, Sam Claflin, Stephen Graham, Yuki Matsuzaki and Gemma Ward.
