PEE-WEE HERMAN Star Paul Reubens Confirms Judd Apatow Produced Movie Ready for Green Light
Published: June 27, 2011 - 5:12pm
The actor confirms that the upcoming big screen return of the iconic man-child has a completed script and is ready to move forward under the guidance of the 40 Year Old Virgin director.

Pee-wee Herman himself Paul Reubens co-wrote the script for the as of yet untitled film along with Inglourious Basterds star Paul Rust. Overseeing the script was producer Judd Apatow (Knocked Up), who was available as a resource to make sure the film was headed in a more emotional direction. Reubens mentioned that Apatow was "constantly having us talk about and address the emotional core of Pee-wee Herman, (which) adds a dimension," he said that has never been on screen before.
Reubens went on to say that the film is "ready to green light", confirming that he and Rust turned in the completed script last week. So far no director has been attached to the project and Apatow is only on board as producer.
The children's show character of Pee-wee Herman has graced the big screen twice before with the Tim Burton directed Pee-wee's Big Adventure and it's less successful sequel Big Top Pee-wee. Of interesting note, the first Pee-wee Herman film was also the very first major movie project that composer Danny Elfman worked on after his friend Burton brought him on board.
