Waking up in an empty hospital after weeks in a coma, County Sheriff Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) finds himself utterly alone. The world as he knows it is gone, ravaged by a zombie epidemic. The Walking Dead tells the story of the weeks and months that follow after the apocalypse. Based on Robert Kirkman's hugely successful and popular comic book series.

When season two begins Rick and the others will meet “a lot of new characters,” reveals exec producer Robert Kirkman. Hershel Greene is the owner of a farm where Rick and the other survivors take temporary refuge at. Hershel is a veterinarian and it's reported by TV Line that they will be looking for a “Wilford Brimley type" to fill the role.

Hershel and his family join the group of survivors and his daughter Maggie, which has been confirmed to be a character this season, eventually has a romance with Glen. She is described as a younger version of Laurie Holden's Andrea but with better horse back riding skills. The third character to be revealed is Otis, he is described as a “middle-aged ranch foreman who’s such a sweetheart that he all but loses it when he accidentally shoots a fellow survivor.”

Robert Kirkman teases at some issues the survivors will face in season two, “In the first season, there was a lot of hubbub in Atlanta and then there was a lot of downtime at the farm. We’re definitely going to have quiet moments and everything, but being on the road in a world like this and in that traveling caravan, running out of food, having to stop to get supplies despite being in a dangerous area, there’s going to be some really high drama [and] intense stuff.”

The Walking Dead stars Andrew Lincoln, Jon Bernthal, Sarah Wayne Callies, Laurie Holden, Jeffrey DeMunn, Steven Yeun, Emma Bell and Chandler Riggs. Executive producers are Frank Darabont, Gale Anne Hurd, Robert Kirkman, David Alpert, and Charles "Chic" Eglee. Jack LoGiudice serves as co-executive producer with Denise Huth as producer. Written by Darabont, Eglee, LoGiudice, Kirkman, Glen Mazzara and Adam E. Fierro.
