HBO Latino Presents the Two Part Special HABLA TEXAS

HBO Latino presents Habla Texas, the latest special in the original "Habla" series. Debuting in two installments on May 6th and May 13th, the special will be followed by the premiere of the two-part telefilm Alice.

HBO Latino presents Habla Texas, a two-part special that brings a distinctive Texas-style drawl, with vestiges of Spanish, to the television screen for an all-new look at what it’s like to be Latino in the Great State of Texas. The latest installment in the popular and critically acclaimed original series, Habla, Habla Texas Part I debuts on HBO Latino May 6th, followed by Part II on May 13th, both at 7:30 p.m. ET/PT.
Featuring a unique American Latino perspective that has become the cornerstone of the series, Habla Texas was filmed entirely in Austin and takes an enlightening look at the ups and downs and highs and lows of Latinos who definitely “talk Texas.” From cultural clashes to cultural celebrations like the “Day of the Dead,” the two-part special is steeped in the unique folklore, musical traditions and history of Texan Latinos.
Spotlighting people from all walks of life, Habla Texas is at times direct, humorous and poignant, with each personal story depicting an educational or cultural moment that exemplifies the diversity of Latino life which cross-cultural and cross-lingual audiences will enjoy.
Among the interviewees are: the mayor of San Antonio, Julian Castro, and his twin brother, Texas State Representative Joaquin Castro, writer and professor Carmen Tafolla, educator Jesus de la Torre, Hispanic education specialist Ramon Talavera, educator and philanthropist Teresa Lozano-Long and adaptive physical educator Carlos Cervantes, Hollywood publicist Gabriel Reyes, publicist Lisa Andrade and journalist Michelle Valles, comedian Cleto Rodrigues, singer and realtor Patricia Vonne, mariachi Santiago Hernandez, musician Brian Ramos and writer and filmmaker David Rice, social entrepreneur Francisco Gonima, founder of “Las Comadres” Nora de Hoyos and social worker Patricia Castillo.
Since first introduced in 2003, the Habla series has chronicled vibrant, illuminating community portraits of Latinos in Los Angeles, Miami, Chicago, New York City, and now Austin. Featuring people from all walks of life, the stories have ranged from laugh-out loud anecdotes of growing up in the U.S. to moving tales of family and roots. Through a wide-range of ages, colors and backgrounds, and in Spanish, English and Spanglish, the series has captured compelling real life accounts of what it means to be Latino in the U.S. and given a voice to people whose stories might otherwise not be heard. The debut of Habla Texas is immediately followed by the premiere of the two-part telefilm Alice at 8:00 p.m. EST on May 6th and May 13th. In this continuing saga, Alice, who left her quiet hometown for the teeming metropolis of São Paolo to attend her father’s funeral in season one, begins to find her way in the fast-paced city. Now more mature and facing new experiences, she fully becomes an independent woman. Produced by HBO Latin America Originals, and presented in Portuguese with Spanish subtitles, the telefilm stars Andréia Horta as Alice.
