The Captain America: The First Avenger actor is pairing up once more with the Matrix directing duo for their upcoming epic adaptation of a novel that spans thousands of years and genres.

Book publisher Hachette Australia dropped the news via Twitter saying, “Actor Hugo Weaving has said he is working on the film adaption of David Mitchell’s Cloud Atlas with the makers of The Matrix!
The Wachowskis are planning to co-direct Cloud Atlas with Tom Tykwer (The International). No actors have been confirmed but if Hugo Weaving (The Matrix) joins he may not be alone as Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, James McAvoy, and Ian McKellan have all been attached to the ambitious project.

If Cloud Atlas gets off the ground then the $80-100 million project may hit production as early as this summer, but the Wachowskis are currently wrapped up in their gay Iraq love story Cobalt Neutral 9. The duo has also expressed interest in an updated take on Robin Hood which would star Will Smith.
The synopsis for Cloud Atlas is as follows:
A reluctant voyager crossing the Pacific in 1850; a disinherited composer blagging a precarious livelihood in between-the-wars Belgium; a high-minded journalist in Governor Reagan’s California; a vanity publisher fleeing his gangland creditors; a genetically modified “dinery server” on death-row; and Zachry, a young Pacific Islander witnessing the nightfall of science and civilisation — the narrators of Cloud Atlas hear each other’s echoes down the corridor of history, and their destinies are changed in ways great and small.
