The story revolves around Dylan Dog, the world’s only private investigator of the undead with a business card that features his slogan, “investigator of the paranormal: no pulse, no problem.” Along with his assistant Marcus, Dylan will go where the living dare not -- facing down friend and foe alike, until justice is done. Starring Brandon Routh (Superman Returns), Sam Huntington (Being Human), Anita Briem (Journey to the Center of the Earth 3D) and Taye Diggs (Rent). The film is directed by Kevin Munroe (TMNT).

Dylan Dog: Dead of Night began is promotional circuit at today's WonderCon expo, the the film's lead Brandon Routh shared his thoughts on bringing the popular Italian story to life and how the film's tone carries across various genres.

"There are only six [Dylan Dog] comics that have translated into English, so I read those and I also had a friend who spent some time in Italy and knew the comics well so I talked to him, picked his brain about the character and what he thought was important. I took all those aspects and.. found those parts of me that were like Dylan and tried to bring that out. The dry, sarcastic humor.. I can be grumpy at times when I'm tired [laughs]."

How much improvisation were you allowed to do on the set with co-star Sam Huntington?

"A fair amount.. because our real life relationship as friends it added more life to the characters on screen so we could play with the dialogue, or add a little color, little pieces here or there to the script.

"We talked about scenes but we didn't go through a lot of the rehearsal process because I don't think we needed to. We could work our real life relationship into it."

Were there any detective stories that you drew from for inspiration?

"I think the film Noir style, as a whole, was a bit of a starting point.. the loneliness of the detectives, they've all had some tragic event that's happened or that's about to happen [that] becomes the story. That's from the various things I've seen in the past. Then there's the sense to me of the roguishness of Dylan, I kind of relate when I first read the script it felt to me there were a lot of Han Solo moments in there, or Indiana Jones moments, where there's [something] that he can't possibly face but he still makes some witty remark and saves the day or gets away."

Is there any worry about combining two genres, comedy and horror, throughout the whole movie?

"Well, it's all character and based off of relationships. A lot of the humor is based off Dylan and Marcus' relationship or events that happen to them. I think it's all relevant and really funny, it doesn't overtake [the film] I wouldn't say it's more one or another. It's comedy/horror/action, all those things rolled into one."

I get a great Army of Darkness vibe from this. Brandon Routh plays an excellent comedic "straight man."

Dellamorte Dellamore, another great CBM for the same creator of Dylan Dog, have the same vibe "horror-comedy" what works so well, but is visible the other influences on this film (Buffy, Constantine, Chinatown, etc) what made much people seen the film with doubts, but the prodution as very informative about the tone and the shootings, so i still thing this will be a good movie.
