First Look at Adrianne Palicki as the New WONDER WOMAN
Published: March 18, 2011 - 12:27pm
UPDATE: Entertainment Weekly has unveiled the first look of the Princess of Themyscira as she will appear on the small screen confirming earlier reports that it will mirror the newly redesigned Jim Lee costume.

The new Jim Lee designed costume used in Wonder Woman #600 will be the outfit of choice for the TV series. Wonder Woman is a reinvention of the iconic DC Comics title in which the heroine – AKA Diana Prince – is a vigilante crime fighter in Los Angeles but also a successful corporate executive and a modern woman trying to balance all of the elements of her extraordinary life.
It was announced a few weeks back that Adrianne Palicki (Friday Night Lights, Red Dawn) will star in the title role of Wonder Woman. Tracie Thoms has been cast as a regular, playing Etta the bubbly personal assistant of Diana and Pedro Pascal will play a liaison to the police department who is devoted and loyal to the princess of power. Elizabeth Hurley has signed on to portray the show's villain opposite Palicki, while Cary Elwes will portray the CEO of the company owned by Diana Prince, Themyscira Industries.

A little too shiny but overall I have to say I like it.

So shiny it almost look photoshopped. Either way, it mirrors and actually improves on Jim Lee's design, IMO. A really nice halfway point between old and new.

Everything looks swell 'cept her face. She usually looks really good... I think they messed up on her makeup a little.
casinoskunk
at least it is recognizable as WW
Not_yet_a_Legend
Looks a little pornstar-y. WonderWoman XXX: A Porn Parody.
Still not bad. I'll tune in for the pilot at least.

That's pretty horrible. It looks like she's wearing shiny blue jeans.

I'm impressed. It looks much better than I expected. The colors are a little bright and the material too shiny for my taste, but it is a nice look overall.

Ballsy!
The colors definitely could be toned down, but I think they got the look right.

Quick! Someone get a pic together of her, Hal and Bruce!!!

Not cool. It is like the costume designer phoned it in for the pants. The corset is fine, the boots are tolerable, but there is no excuse for those pants.
Silverback77
I think the suit looks bad ass!
Krysalid
That's it.. I'm done.. this is a complete failure.
That [crap] looks like somebody bought in a fetish store. Granted, replacing the black with blue is an improvement over the original design, but she doesn't even "fit right".
fanboiii
I don't see how she can fight in that let alone move. She does look like a porn star.
They need to completely update Wonder Woman and not in a way that makes her more silly.
Anthony3
I like it but the boots should be red.
Boy October
I like the fact that they're covering up a lot more, it's just too bloody shiny. Also: Spendex? Why did it have to be Spandex?

I have to completely agree with you. There are some redeemable (if not likable) things about the costume, but the pants are just over the top and silly. But at least they're going with a costume right off (ahem, Smallville, ahem).

The more I look at this the more I have to wonder if it isn't the costume designers CG rendering. I'm probably wrong but the lines all look too sharp, the reflection off of the metal doesn't look natural and it would explain the over shininess. I wonder if this wasn't released as maybe the "approved" design in order to put at ease people's fears or concerns about what she's going to look like. I mean we're along way from the days of colored pencils for design sketches.
Might be wrong. Either way, I'm good though.

Well, I am a professional seamstress who specializes in costumes, so I would say I know a little about costuming.

That is a physical garment on her body, and yes, material that shiny does exist, it just shouldn't.

At least it looks like she could wear them under other pants for quick costume changes. Maybe it's for the purpose of efficiency.

Look closely at the belt and the lasso. The light is coming from the front and the lasso is casting no shadow. The belt itself has almost no thickness to it. Also where the, I guess, "buckle" is, under the W shape of it, the shadow doesn't look right, as if the dimension is painted in. And if you look REAL close you can see a lighter blue line that parallels it.
I know material like that exists but so does texture in graphics software.
I'm saying render.
Eledaia
There is no visible shadow because the light is probably coming from diffusion or multiple sources. If you need the pants to validate that the lasso is there, look at the right hip, there isn't a shadow, but rather a "reflection" of the lasso off of the pants.

Trust her on this one, she spends probably 70% of her day doing costume research, pouring over pictures, identifying materials and construction methods, if she says it's legit, it's most likely legit.
As for the lasso, it's casting a shadow, you can see it, it's just really light. This was a photoshoot, there's most likely TONS of lights on her and they're trying to eliminate as much shadow as possible, they're doing a pretty good job
Eledaia
Also, don't doubt it for a second that this is probably photoshopped. The anomalies you are perceiving are probably because they cleaned up something.

It's not that bad

Not be argumentative, just an interesting tidbit. The method of costume/garment design is usually up to the designer's most comfortable medium. Most of the LOTR designs from Ngila Dickson were hand sketched with colored pencils and even Star Wars artist Iain McCaig worked with pencils/watercolors when designing for Trisha Biggar. I'm not saying that 3-D rendering is not employed for costume concepts, but it is usual after the pencil design stage. Lots of fashion designers still work with pencil sketches too.

Likewise here on the argumentative thing. I know different designers work in different mediums (I'm not exactly a stranger to the "biz"). I was simply speaking to the capabilities that are possible. I didn't mean to imply that all, or even most, designers work digitally.
Question for you: I have no doubt that you're correct about the pants and top that she's wearing being real. In your opinion what do you think the likelihood is that maybe the accessories are what are actually photoshopped in. Because really, it's not the fabric that's drawing my attention. It's the accessories. Thoughts?

They don't look fake to me, just of a lesser quality than you would hope for. I can see them being a cast resin, but the coloring is such that they come off as spray painted plastic. The wrist bands look better than the belt and chest piece, and the belt has the worst look IMO.
Eledaia
You know, the blue pants are more tolerable with the red boots...

Much better, thanks. That was the only qualm I had about the suit. The boots look great, and so does her new boobs!!

yeah the boots make the blue pants better i agree!
and you cant go wrong with Lynda Carter's boobs!

The costume is...... passable... for a TV show.
I just can't get past her face
That B I T C H is ugly. Why does she have Kilowog's chin? And where are her cheekbones?
fanboiii
lol, boobs of all the things to change. i would've made her pants black with the same material as Black Widow's in IM2, and flat boots. the corset is silly. what would stop any villain from pulling her top down in a realistic scenario. bad guys are so polite in comics.
Samaritan
I feel indifferent about this. Adrianne is actually a very attractive looking woman, just look at her model pics on google, but this photo makes her look odd mostly due to the bad makeup. Her lips are glossy as hell. I have faith in her acting ability cus she is pretty good if you've seen her youtube videos of her past work in other shows. The synopsis of the show is pretty lame. As for the suit...it looks very cheap. I like how they are sticking with WW roots for the design, but I hope the costume will not look so plastic. It's like she got it off of a porn costume shop. The suit just needs a bit more tweaking. However, I am sure the cameras will make it look better as how many films do with superheroes.
WeaponX
It's not horrible but it does look a bit cheap for a professional go at a television series. I think it's the latex look that gives it that cos-play feel.

Dude! That is my gripe for superheroes on network television. THEY DON'T HAVE THE BUDGET for better! This is it! Bad writing, bad costumes. I really can't believe actors of the caliber of Hurley and Elwes are connected to this.
Furthermore, I can't believe that a hero of WW caliber is connected to this. Someone keeps selling DC/WB a bill of goods and they keep buying it. Weak!
Darkneo
I can live with new age ideas at times such as uniforms, etc., sometimes.
But as for her she looks like, well a porn slut to me. No features that say Amazon Princess or Super Heroin. Her face just has no life to it. Maybe its the lighting, the CG overlay,or the way some of the uniform looking rather odd but its just not doing it for me. JMHO
