Pietro Talks with Actress Elena Satine About SMALLVILLE, SPIDER-MAN Rumors & Her Music

The young starlet has caused quite a stir with rumblings of her involvement in the Spider-Man reboot and TV appearance as the Queen of Atlantis. Hear what she has to say about both, as well as her passion for screenwriting and blossoming music career.

Though not a household name yet, Elena Satine already captured the attention of comic fans around the net when the red haired beauty was linked as a possible candidate to portray Mary Jane Watson in director Marc Webb's yet to be titled Spider-Man film. Satine, a native of Moscow, Russia, is currently working on the Justin Timberlake and Amanda Seyfried action film Now and recently wrapped on Adam Sandler's latest romantic comedy Just Go With It.

Jumping between projects, she managed to take the time to answer a few questions about her past roles; as well as her plans to expand her stake in the entertainment industry by incorporating music and screenwriting into steadily growing modeling and acting career.

"I am a classically trained pianist and have been writing songs since I was a little girl. I come from a very musical family, it's something that has played a huge role in my life." The music industry in continuously overwhelmed with copycat artists, piggybacking off of the success of similar musicians; but Elena isn't worried about being compartmentalized with that bunch. She calls her musical exploits "rock country fusion" and plans of bringing an international touch of originality to traditionally American music.

"I'm getting back in the studio and trying to come up with something fresh....I love Country music so I think the fact that I'm a girl from Russia doing that kind of music makes it drastically different from anything on that market."

Music aside, Elena has an acting career to keep tabs on; especially on television, where she's appeared on shows such as Melrose Place and Cold Case. Her most notable portrayal to date, though, has been on the long running CW show Smallville, where the self proclaimed comic book lover brought the DC Comics heroine Mera to life. "I was well aware of who Mera was when Smallville came calling and I jumped at the chance to do it. I loved that I would be the first live action portrayal of Mera, I mean who wouldn't want to be a part of comic book history that way?"

Tom Welling, who has portrayed Clark Kent for the ten year running of the show, also directed the episode -- titled "Patriot" -- which brought back Alan Ritchson as Aquaman and introduced his wife Mera. "I absolutely loved working with Tom both as director and actor, he is very dedicated and hard working. Alan was fantastic to act opposite and so much fun as well. The entire cast and crew is so lovely; some of the most wonderful people I have ever worked with." With Smallville wrapping it's final season, many of the actors and actresses from seasons past have plans to reprise their roles. There's no telling if Aquaman or Mera may return one more time before the series finale, but Satine is open to the possibility, "I would be thrilled to return to the show if the storyline calls for us."

DC Comics characters are one thing, but many Marvel fans seemed convinced Satine had nabbed the role of MJ Watson in the relaunched Spider-Man films; the first which is currently filming. Was there any substance to the rumors? "Well, along with every young actress in Hollywood I was called in to read for the film. At the time, no details were revealed so no one knew what role they were reading for. But based on the very basic description we were given, having knowledge of comic books, I immediately knew that the role was Gwen. Somehow, it got out that I had read for the project, and because of my likeness to MJ it just blew up on the internet."

Internet fans weren't the only ones who were vying for Elena to bring the most famous redhead in comics to life, even comic icon Stan Lee was shocked at the similarity, "I was at Comic Con [last year] and a friend introduced me to Stan Lee... the first words out of his mouth were 'Oh my, it's MJ! It's like you leaped off of my pages' which was very sweet."

As if acting, modeling and a new music career aren't enough, Elena also has another time consuming passion in the entertainment industry; writing. "I've written a couple of screenplays. I never really write for myself, I actually just write for actors I admire and hope that when it comes down to making the film they would want to be a part of it. My first screenplay is based on a true story, a life of an artist; I really admire Adrien Brody so wrote it with him in mind. I'm currently writing a big budget sci-fi film as well." Asked whether she writes any characters with her own personality in mind and whether she chooses her roles based on her genres of interest, she says, "Sure, there are roles in these films I can certainly play, however, I don't go into the writing process thinking about writing for me. I definitely [choose roles based on] the character. I want to do everything in my career. I do not want to limit myself to a specific genre, so what I look for are well written scripts with layered characters and compelling stories."

With two silver screen outings this year, as well as a secret project she's not allowed to talk about just yet, Elena Satine is a driven, multi-talented entertainer whose big plans for her career rapidly unfolding. But she still seems to have her eye on one role in particular, that of Spidey's main squeeze, "I would most certainly want to pursue the role in the future, especially after receiving such tremendous support from the fans (I love you guys!)"

She truly is, and very intelligent as well. If she dedicates herself to all the mediums she's currently pursuing she's going to end up being a major player in Hollywood.

I hope so. There is no sweeter justice than well earned respect and success. There's nothing sexier than smart and talented.
