The Red Skull Revealed in CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER Concept Art
Published: January 10, 2011 - 7:15am
A new image circulating around the internet, which appears to be the same style of the first concept pieces from the film, may reveal the first look at the disfigured former Nazi portrayed by Hugo Weaving.

The year is 1942, and Steve Rogers is a scrawny lad who desperately wants to fight Nazis for his country but can’t because he’s been deemed physically unfit. His fate — and his physique — is radically transformed when he signs up for Project: Rebirth, a secret military operation that turns wimps into studs using drugs and assorted sci-fi hoo-ha. There’s a love interest (Major Peggy Carter, played Haley Atwell), there’s a sidekick (Bucky Barnes, played by Sebastian Stans), and there’s the Red Skull (Hugo Weaving), Hitler’s treacherous head of advanced weaponry, whose own plan for world domination involves a magical object known as The Tesseract (comic fans know it better as The Cosmic Cube).

Captain America: The First Avenger stars Chris Evans, Hugo Weaving, Tommy Lee Jones, Stanley Tucci, Haley Atwell, Sebastian Stan, Dominic Cooper Toby Jones and Neal McDonough. The film is scheduled for theatrical release on July 22nd, 2011.

COOL! though i don't know if it's a good thing or a bad thing that the one on the right looks just like the one from the Avengers cartoon. also, the one on the left doesn't look so great.i think we need to see some live action footage to determine how it will look.

well looks good in the concept art, but we'll have to wait and see how it comes off as in live action. It definitely looks horrifying

I'm a tad disappointed that we're not seeing him in full Nazi regalia, I feel like they're trying to be a tad politically correct with the whole "Hydra" thing. However his face looks awesome, spot on!

oh John - you're never satisfied until someone goes FULL BLOWN NAZI.
Not everybody can be full blown nazi all the time you know. it takes work to be full blown nazi and maybe Skull was just in a Hydra mood you know? Get off his back - he has no skin on his face.

I think the Hydra thing is to tie the universe together. At some point, there was confirmation of Nazis in the film.
Also, isn't that just Weaving with a shaved head and red face paint.
Looks great!!!

I wonder how much will be prosthetics and how much will be CGI?

I have high hopes for the Red Skull, especially after seeing how well Two-Face was done in TDK.

I heard the nose was being CGI'd out, but that's all I've heard so far.

I have to agree with you about the Nazi thing.
It feels almost like Marvel is trying to deny the Holocaust. (kidding sort of)
I feel insulted for my children, who are getting their first taste of the heroes I've known all my life. They're not getting the full story and it kind of looses it's meaning. Now it's just a fictional backdrop instead of a pivotal time in world history. The Nazi regime was one of the only forces in history that was just BAD. It was all about the worst of humanity being confronted by the best... which was Steve Rogers... an every man turned hero.
Now it's just another cape fighitng crooks with too much ambition. Cap needs his Nazis like Superman needs his Luthor... ya know?
But dude, I frickin LOVE his coat! I hope they make a relica of that to buy.... I'd wear it. I'd have to take off the Nazi stuff if they have any on there though. Wai!!! Now I'm doing it!
I am such a hypocrite.

I am 100% willing to guarantee that Red Skull starts off the movie as a Nazi. He will then form his own sect of the German/Nazi army known as HYDRA. Why do I guarantee this? Because it makes sense and I am positive I have actually heard this from Weaving or Joe Johnson around comic con time.

That does ring true with the description: "Hitler’s treacherous head of advanced weaponry, whose own plan for world domination involves a magical object known as The Tesseract".

Yeah, I'm sure he'll start as a Nazi, and that'll probably be enough to satisfy my "he's super evil" radar.

Man i wont wait to see this movie. It really look like some super hero from marvel comics.
The costume looks really old school with a shield to protect himself.I wonder if he had some super powers
