First Footage Revealed for GREEN LANTERN
Published: November 13, 2010 - 7:59am
Updated with Hi-Res version. The first public footage of any kind has finally been shown for next Summer's Green Lantern. We get our first look at Ryan Reynolds as the Green Lantern in action, plus Kilowag!

In this promo for Entertainment Tonight, we see Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively as Hal Jordan and Carol Ferris respectively. It is a very quick 30 second spot teasing next Tuesday's feature story on ET. There are also quick shots of Kilowag and Taika Waititi as Hal's best friend Thomas Kalmaku. The promo shows a much more classic looking costume from the comic books.
(Thanks to AlternateNo4 for the high quality version)
Green Lantern, directed by Martin Campbell, stars Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, Mark Strong, Peter Sarsgaard, Tim Robbins and Angela Bassett. The film is scheduled to hit 2D and 3D theaters June 17th, 2011.

Looks great from what I could tell. Thanks for the footage. Wish I could see it better. When will this be airing?

Great!!! To be honest, this is my whole reason for seeing Harry Potter.
I like the enhancements they made to the suit since the EW article way back.

hello hal. look at yourself, now back to the ring. now back at yourself, now back to the ring. sadly your a human, but you might have a chance. look up at me, now down to the ring. where are you? your in the GL corps. with the power your ring could be like. what's on your finger? back to me. what i have is an lantern that can recharge your batteries for that thing you love. look again, now the ring is recharged. anything is possible when you have a ring like that. i'm on a throne.

I'm not feeling it.... the pose he strikes when he 'manifests' the costume in front of Tom is over the top.... the fact that he holds that pose while saying "I know, right??" is silly...
The drop-kick is odd and silly....
And the mask doesn't look good on him at all.
I hope my negative impression here is just because it's stuff out of context. We need to see some gravitas here for the audience to really buy this, and all we see here are silly one-liners and Ryan looking giddy like a kid in a candy shop ("Go look for trouble!")
I'm usually super-positive and I want this movie to be great.... but this kinda fails for me as a teaser. Hopefully the trailer/teaser that will be in front of Harry Potter in a week will show us a bit more....

Ohh Sweet!!!!!! I gotta say I 'm loving the look of this film more than Thor; not that I'm sayin Thor looks bad, but Daymn! Gl and Thor and Cap will own. All we need left is Cap footage.
Ranger14
It seems to me the footage we see of GL is making him look slightly awkward in adjusting to his powers, which is much more realistic than anything. I wouldn't want to see him flying and doing everything just perfectly right off the get-go. Still need to see a little more.

Honest opinion: It looks ok. That one scene where Hal's wearing the GL mask and flying towards the camera his face looks funny.

WHERE IS SINESTRO?

Fan-friki-tastic! Great stuff right there! So excited now!
I admit while I am excited for this it does come off as over the top a bit but badass nonetheless.

Sinestro is the one flying down around the Central Power Battery.

In the lower quality vid, I thought Hal was captured during the "I know right" scene because of the pose he's striking. It looks as though he is chained to pillars.

I...don't know how to feel about this yet. I really, REALLY want this to be awesome, and I want it to be top dog come 2011, but this little bit of footage doesn't exactly make me feel that way. The comedy bits (with Kalmaku and the "Let's get these pants off..." scene) have me kind of worried, and the CGI looks sketchy. But, it is only about 30 seconds and there is still a ways to go in post-production, so hopefully this isn't indicative of the movie's overall tone and hopefully the CG looks convincing and well-done on screen. The CG is going to be a big part of this, so really, I hope they smooth it out. Gotta pray that the trailer in front of Deathly Hallows Pt. 1 is better. Please?
Green Lantern
The CGI will only improve people! You are reading to much into this. The trailer at Harry Potter 7 or what-not is gonna be more inticing than this. This is just a teaser with a selected few scenes. Its easy to take the jokes out of context and so fourth. Its gonna be an amazing movie and I know it. Its one of Warner Brothers/DC most treasured superheroes, it will be more updated when we see it next summer. People are always reading too much into the teasers. I must confess I didnt like the wibe from Tom there but Hal looks good! This film got it all and the sequel will probably be dark as hell with Sinestro turning bad.
Trust me people, this movie is the movie to watch coming summer! So dont take this teaser on ET for granted. The main feel to the movie is more Iron Man than TDK but it will have its serious moments. A mix between Begins and IM1. Just wait and get blown away to Oa!

'Bout Flippin' Time! I'll have to tune in on Tuesday to see if they have any more footage.

ABC usually. And really, the YouTube version doesn't do it justice.

nice overall. if i were in marketing i'd have given e.t. some more heavy stuff, but who's to say e.t. didn't just cherry-pick the goofy parts to show in preview? these scenes seem fine for light moments but i'll admit i'd be disappointed if it were the entire tone of the film; that said, i'm feel pretty confident that the finished product will be amazing.
i like the cgi uniform... but still think maybe it could glow a tiny bit less...
ckal
Looks alright. Need to see some footage with a heavier tone. Seems like (going by this) they are going to market it as a light and humorous movie. Won't pass any judgment until I see the full trailer though.
Upupandaway
I wouldn't expect the trailer playing before Harry Potter to have much heavy stuff either. During the holiday season, they're probably going to be marketing these films to families. That's not saying that they'll completely shy away from the heavy stuff, but that I wouldn't expect much of it.

I don't know about that. Deathly Hallows looks to be fairly intense by all accounts so a darker trailer is not out of the queation...here's hoping at least.

What a way to start the weekend! Yessssss!

That'd be fine by me. I'm just saying that, even if the teaser has a lot of lighter moments, it shouldn't put people off of the whole film. Different trailers market to different demographics and it shouldn't make the whole movie off-putting if one doesn't see the trailer geared to his or her demographic. GL is going to probably have TV spots on both Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network. I'm not going to judge the film based off of those either, unless they're awesome.

Not too shabby. Still in post doing clean-ups I imagine.

I'm still going nuts over this, the green is perfect!

i thought the green was a bit too lime. and i like your mask better John. The movie still looks like he has a maxi pad stuck to his face.

Oh also, I can almost guarantee that the scene with Kilowog is the one where he sniffs Hal and says "you smell funny".

I think you're mistaken. That scene is the one where Kilowag says, "Oh no you di-int" then Hal goes "Oh yes I di-id, beeyotch"

just woke up and watched it another 347 times. not getting tired of this at. all.
reynolds seems perfect... uniform perfect... construct a little less substantial than i was hoping for but it's his first one, right? so that's prolly why it looks underdeveloped. wish we could see a trailer that shows the whole tone of the movie, not just the et commercial, but it will do for now. i DO hope they do a texture layer and an atmospheric layer on the suit, but to be perfectly honest with you they could do a syfy movie of GL and i'd still love it.

I would like to see it less rectangular. Have it angle a bit on the sides or something.

I agree with Ckal on that actually. His eyes should be completely white, and his hair is not right. Ryan doesnt got that Hal's hair but everything else is beautiful. The CGI will be even more amazing when it comes out!

They should make a darker area around, specially above, each eye.

We're only seeing some rudimentary clips. Who knows what context they're in, and at what stage of post production they're in?? Its only an ET promo that may have been given some roughly finished cut.
I for one, personally look forward to it!
fanboiii
A lot looks unrendered which is probably what they're still working on. Of course ET is going to show one liners and flashy shots, but that doesn't mean the whole movie is like that. The only thing I didn't like is the cliche smoky effect they used for his projections. A more solid, holographic effect would have been better.
SLCpunk801
HUH.......Good luck Hal.

The script is FULL of the sarcastic one liners that Ryan Reynolds has in all of his roles. It was hard picturing anyone but Reynolds being cast after reading it. I think it worked in the script though, cause it helps set the "cocky pilot" part of Hal Jordan.
