AVATAR 2 Will Not Completely be an Undersea Adventure

With James Cameron confirming that Avatar 2 and 3 will be his next directorial project, many have wondered how much the oceans of Pandora will be involved as a main location based on his earlier comments.

Cameron even went so far as to say he is building equipment to shoot in the Mariana Trench. Producer Jon Landau recently spoke to Empire about how big a part the ocean(s) will play. He also stated that the next movie would likely stay on Pandora.

"Water will be a part of the movie, but it won’t be all of the movie, " Landau told us. "There’s been a lot of rumours that it’s an underwater movie – it’s not. Just like the Floating Mountains, and the Na’vi's interaction with the mountains, were a part of Avatar, it’ll be the same type of thing."

Landau also assured that Avatar 2 will not just be a lead-in to the third movie, a recent trend with some larger tentpole series.

"The next [film] will kick off where the next last one ended, but, just like Avatar resolved itself and doesn’t feel like a set-up to another movie, you don’t want Avatar 2 to feel like a set up for 3."

OK.

It was cool in theaters in 3D once, but I never had an urge to watch it again. I wonder how successful sequels will be.

it's funny... i never have the URGE to watch it either, but every time i'm someplace where it's playing i can't take my eyes off it. but i wasn't just into the visuals—i'm a sucker for the environmental and anti-capitalism messages too... so i guess that plays a part in my enjoyment.

Wow, we're 100% opposite on this one, I don't get drawn into the visuals at all and I can't stand the blatant hippy-liberal messages Tongue

haha well even great minds don't always think alike i guess. i AM a blatant hippy-liberal, socialist-collectivist, atheist-secularist, anti-imperialist and everything else that movie was trying to appeal to. and after the past 10 years, i couldn't possibly be more tired of listening to right-wing blather, fear-mongering and military-industrial-saber-rattling, so it was fun to watch that philosophy take a beating for once. a little leftist propaganda sure hits the spot every now & then! Laughing out loud

When you like one, you're always surrounded by the other Wink Or so it would seem.

too true... perhaps it is intrinsic to human nature to feel targeted or outnumbered... part of the parasympathetic "flight" defense mechanism perhaps? who knows. nice to know that we can still agree on the important things... like the inarguable supremacy of all things Green Lantern... Wink

I liked it when it was Pocahontas and FernGully. At least those had songs. Unobtainium! For real James! The world was gorgeous in the movie; the story not so much.

For me, naked blue people just make it too difficult to take away a serious social statement.

unobtanium sounded silly to me too at first, but then i thought about the way we name new elements these days. curium, einsteinium, americium, californium for heaven's sake... why not unobtanium? i think they should have gone with pandorium, but overall it's a minor moment.

Alternate4, leftist propaganda is absolutely everywhere in society. It's been the whole of popular culture for nearly 50 years and people are so immersed in it that they don't know even know that it's there any more. It's actually the other side that has become marginalized and sub-cultural and in the last 20 most of what you would probably call right wing propaganda is virtually invisible in the United States.

AND I must add that Unobtanium is still bothering me. It's just so stupid. It's terrible. I hate being reminded that that word exists. Sad

thank you for your valiant attempt to swerve me from the path of certain doom, my friend, but even if you were correct—which of course i believe to be untrue—what YOU call "leftist" would surely not be far enough left for me. i won't debate this because i have left that arena... i reached my tipping point long ago and no longer engage in political discussions, because unlike most of my left-wing friends, i don't care to hear the opinions of the other side or find a common ground. my opinions are very rigid and leave no room for compromise.

i only brought it up because i was explaining why i liked avatar... i'll try not to open that can of worms again Smile
