The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo is based off of the first book of critically acclaimed Millennium Trilogy, which has already spurred three successful Swedish films. Here is a brief synopsis of the story:
Harriet Vanger, a scion of one of Sweden’s wealthiest families disappeared over forty years ago. All these years later, her aged uncle (Christopher Plummer) continues to seek the truth. He hires Mikael Blomkvist (Daniel Craig), a crusading journalist recently trapped by a libel conviction, to investigate. He is aided by the pierced and tattooed punk prodigy Lisbeth Salander (Rooney Mara). Together they tap into a vein of unfathomable iniquity and astonishing corruption.
Daniel Craig (Casino Royale, Cowboys & Aliens) was recently spotted filming the opening scene for the film on location in Stockholm, the Swedish capital, where his character had just been convicted and sentenced for printing a libelous newspaper article:
The David Fincher directed film is scheduled for theatrical release December 2011.
