Blake Lively who plays Ryan Reynolds' love interest, Carol Ferris, was on hand to present the Spike Scream award for "Most Anticipated Movie", beating out the three upcoming Marvel Studios superhero films, Captain America, Thor, and The Avengers. Ryan arrived in style, rocking the "Hal Jordan" look, bathed in green light and riding an enormous recreation of his Power Battery, the lantern-shaped devices that the intergalactic space cops are known for carrying. This appears to be a first look at the film adaptation's version of the classic superhero accessory.

Comic book writer and current Green Lantern scribe Geoff Johns was also on-hand and won the Scream award for "Best Comic Book Writer", he was up against Jason Aaron, Darwyn Cooke, Garth Ennis, Robert Kirkman and Mike Mignola. This is Geoff Johns' second Spike Scream award win in the Comic Book Writer category. The Scream awards will be airing on Spike TV this Tuesday evening at 9pm Pacific/8pm Central.

In a universe as vast as it is mysterious, a small but powerful force has existed for centuries. Protectors of peace and justice, they are called the Green Lantern Corps. A brotherhood of warriors sworn to keep intergalactic order, each Green Lantern wears a ring that grants him superpowers. But when a new enemy called Parallax threatens to destroy the balance of power in the Universe, their fate and the fate of Earth lie in the hands of their newest recruit, the first human ever selected: Hal Jordan.

Hal is a gifted and cocky test pilot, but the Green Lanterns have little respect for humans, who have never harnessed the infinite powers of the ring before. But Hal is clearly the missing piece to the puzzle, and along with his determination and willpower, he has one thing no member of the Corps has ever had: humanity. With the encouragement of fellow pilot and childhood sweetheart Carol Ferris (Blake Lively), if Hal can quickly master his new powers and find the courage to overcome his fears, he may prove to be not only the key to defeating Parallaxhe will become the greatest Green Lantern of all.

Last years winner: Iron Man 2
Please please please please please don't let GL suck! DC NEEDS momentum for their movies other than Batman. This movie has lots of potential for alienating (ironic huh) their audience with over-the-top sci-fi-ness and too many characters that will ONLY be appealing to the hardcore DC fans. I'm more nervous about this movie than I am for Captain America.

@JusMe6 - good to see ya here man! A big welcome from the former DosOfWar! I don't think the character overload should be a factor. The exta GL Corps only should have a limited appearance. The outer space aspect will be unique and the biggest challenge.

Reynold's hair looks cool and more like Hal in these pics. I wonder if the lantern in the pic is in mid-activation. Maybe it's black and solid when inactive and becomes completely glowing green when active. I hope that's the case because it's looking too Matrix at the moment.

Yep, is he wearing basketball shorts under his jeans? Power Battery looks good and portable. To think that they have all of this technology and were never able to make the batteries pocket sized. Can't wait for this film along with everything else coming out.

My most anticipated CBMs:
1: Green Lantern
2: THOR
3: Captain America

2012
1: Superman (if it releases)
2: Avengers
3: Batman 3
4: The Flash (if it releases)

This movie is going to be a big, chock full of special effects, turd! I don't know if many people who have looked at the script synapses or have likewise read any of the Green Lantern comics enough to know the backround... but the villain that they're gonna feature in the movie, "Parallax" has gotta be the dumbest plot idea ever (next to the illegitimate kid with asthma in Superman Returns). For those of you who don't know... Parallax WAS Hal Jordan, a.k.a. the Green Lantern after he went insane and killed a whole mess of heroes, namely almost every single member of the Green Lantern Corps.

But that shouldn't matter if they have enough "cool" special effects right?!?!

Sounds like you haven't read a GL comic in at least 5 years Wink It was revealed in Green Lantern: Rebirth that Parallax was actually the physical manifestation of fear, the "fear entity". This fear entity possessed Hal when he was at his most vulnerable, after the destruction of Coast City. While this explanation partially exonerates Hal from his crimes as Parallax, he's still quite guilty of succumbing to his fear and letting himself become weak enough to be possessed by Parallax. The beauty of the Green Lantern mythology is that it's always expanding, and every writer gets to add their bit to the expansive history.

The first draft of the script featured the villain Legion, from Emerald Dawn, though the description was a closer match to Parallax. By using Parallax instead, the filmmakers have opted to dive deeper into the GL lore by using a character who's intimately tied to the mythos instead of the one-shot plot device known as Legion. They have chosen wisely.

Ohhhh... I know all that... Parallax was also Kyle Raynor among other characters too... my point is that a more viable villain could've been chosen... perhaps Sinestro, that would've (in my humble opinion) been a better choice. In case you didn't notice, I don't have a heaping bunch of faith in alot of comic book adaptations. I CAN admit when I'm wrong and I'll be happy to do so on this one but I've got a sinking feeling that this is gonna be another shining example of Hollywood execs ruining what could otherwise be a potentially great movie! I have more faith that the new Superman film headed by Zach Snyder will end up being a better example of a good comic book adaptation than Green Lantern. I'll buy my ticket either way and we'll probably revisit this conversation when all is revealed.

I happen to be a huge DC fan... but I think Marvel's current formula on adaptations is more on point, by taking over more creative control of their respective properties they've managed to produce quite a few well done movies ( although I don't know what they were thinking with Spiderman 3 and the 20 minute dance sequence ).

I think using Sinestro as the first villain would have rushed things, in the same manner as First Flight, the benefit to holding off and developing Sinestro as a hero, is that by the time he falls from grace, we might actually be sad about it, even more for those who don't know that Sinestro eventually becomes Hal's greatest nemesis. I've seen nothing but incredible things related to this film so far (and believe me, I've seen more than most) Wink All will be well...

No, but he is a Producer, and he consulted all through filming.
