What do directors Tony Scott ( Unstoppable), Matt Reeves (Let Me In), Zack Snyder (Sucker Punch), Jonathan Liebesman (Battle: Los Angeles) and Duncan Jones (Source Code) all have in common? According to Deadline Hollywood, they comprise the short list of directors Warner Bros has been meeting with to potentially take over direction of the next Superman movie; tentatively titled, Man of Steel.

"Superman producers Chris Nolan and Emma Thomas..have begun meeting with a short list of directors for the job of directing Superman, the picture which will be financed by Warner Bros and Legendary Pictures."

Christopher Nolan (Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, Inception) is "godfathering" the project, with a script penned by David Goyer. Little other information is known about the project, and the script is being kept under tight wraps at Warner Bros. It is also rumored that director Guillermo del Toro, fresh off his two year Hobbit venture, was a contender to the direct the film.

Until noted otherwise, Superman: Man of Steel is set for a 2012 theatrical release.

Can't say I'm too excited about any of them doing Superman. I like Snyder and so far I like what I've seen of Reeves, but for Superman? I don't know. I think I'm just a little skeptical overall that there is anyone who could do it right.

Does this mean this is getting pushed ahead of Batman 3? Maybe they want Nolan to get this rolling before he devotes all his attention to Batman.

I'm all for Duncan Jones for this one. He did so much with so little in Moon. I'd love to see what he could accomplish with a bigger stage.
