HBO Signs BOARDWALK EMPIRE for Second Season

Boardwalk Empire will air the remaining 11 episodes of the first season on Sunday nights this fall. HBO did not say when it would schedule the second season.

Boardwalk Empire set a new record for HBO with it's Sunday night premiere by bringing in 7.1 million viewers. The 7.1 million viewers represent the overall viewers for the three showings of the 75-minute premiere episode on Sunday. The 9 p.m. showing, which was the first showing of the episode, had an average of 4.8 million viewers which is the highest premiere audience for any program since Deadwood first premiered back in 2004. After news of the ratings were reported, HBO wasted no time in renewing the series for a second season.

“All the ingredients aligned for this one, from Mark Wahlberg and Steve Levinson’s initial pitch, to Martin Scorsese’s enormous contributions as director and executive producer, to the genius of Terry Winter and the expertise of Tim Van Patten, to a stellar cast led by Steve Buscemi,” Michael Lombardo, the president of HBO Programming, said in a statement. “The response from the media and our viewers has been nothing short of amazing.”
