James Cameron Bringing TRUE LIES To Televsion?

Cameron is developing a television series based on the hit 1994 movie starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jamie Lee Curtis.

Deadline has reported that James Cameron is working on a television series based on his action/comedy hit, True Lies and will soon begin looking around for various networks to sign it on. Rene Echevarria will serve as the showrunner, a writer and will be an executive producer along side with Cameron and Lightstorm Entertainment's Rae Sanchini and Jon Landau. Echevarria and Sanchini previously worked with Cameron on the sci-fi series Dark Angel, which starred Jessica Alba.

Screen Rant reports that Cameron was reportedly ready to get the ball rolling on True Lies 2 back in 2002 but the 9/11 attacks caused him to rethink his plans. Declaring that terrorism was not something to be taken lightly, he put the project on hold and circumstances prevented him from returning to it.

True Lies is about a man named Harry Tasker, who lives a double life as a secret agent for the U.S. Government. No one really knows about it, not even his wife Helen. When he discovers that Helen may be involved with another man, he uses his resources as an agent to spy on her and give her the excitement she yearns for to save their marriage. Things go wrong in the process as the two become hostages to a terrorist group and Harry has to find a way to get his wife, and himself, out alive.

There’s no word if the series would pick up from the end of the film or simply start from scratch.

I love True Lies, but I don't think this is a good idea. It's been done way too many times since this movie was released and it would just be another copy cat, overall.
