I was happy with Underworld: Awakening. It wasn't the greatest piece of action-laced cinema to come out this month, but it was enjoyable. The cinematography, though still infused with annoyingly blue tones, has now been upgraded to 3D. This aspect was surprisingly engaging and -- due to the fact it was filmed in the format -- did not take any fluidity away from the numerous action beats; but I will say that seeing the film on an IMAX screen was unnecessary. This is definitely the goriest installment in the series, and it features some of the best stunt work I've seen in a long while. Beckinsale looked ageless as always and helped to deliver another satisfying chapter to the franchise. If you're a fan of the property or just in the mood for some supernatural escapist fun, Awakening is the visceral treat for you.
