I took my wife and 9 & 3 year old daughters with me. I was worried about the other patrons (that my daughters would be bothered and start talking/making noise) at a Sunday 9:30 am showing in 2D that my wife and kids would be bored. They were rivited to their seats! We all enjoyed the movie. Of course, I was geeked out. Beautifully shot, a lot of action and humor - and enough time to breath / process in between - and after one viewing had sometime to reflect on the shots taken. I don't know if anyone else noticed, but the main characters (much like Disney's cartoon movies do) have their characters in some sort of reflection, especially when talking about their histories.

I did have some explaining to do in the car afterward about where I thought the sequel was going. THAT was an "involved" conversation. I tried to keep it brief.

The Avengers is an incredibly entertaining work that lives up to half a decade of hype. It's smarter and more engaging than your average superhero film due hugely in part to Joss Whedon's smart, witty script and direction. Whedon is a master of the ensemble, developing the massive cast of characters better than most of their full films leading up to it. There's plenty of rough patches, mind you, most of which lie in the first act's less-inspired exposition (the downright goofy space scenes) and assembly scenes. Plus, after multiple films teasing SHIELD as a mysterious, interesting agency, their portrayal here is terribly uninteresting, perhaps because of a disappointingly flat performance from Samuel L Jackson. But even with its flaws, The Avengers is pure fun; an incredibly sharp action movie filled with great characters and even better relationships between them.

great film and by far the best Marvel comic film adaptation. However, I still prefer Dark Knight & KickAss if you wanna go 'fav. comic films of all time' etc.

It was extraordinary! Joss has created a masterpiece. The dialogue, the humor, the characters and the action, oh the action! Every actor delivers in spades, the emotion and the tension are palpable, I _palped_ it. I ended up really enjoying Ruffalo's take on Banner and Hulk, which is great, since he's signed a 6 picture deal with Marvel. The last half hour gave me an ear-to-ear grin. And the first time they actually function as a team is epic. From that part on it's an awesome display of teamwork and skill. Every other superhero movie pales in comparison, the X-Men movies are a joke next to The Avengers. Anyone who wasn't already a fan of Whedon is about to be.

Great movie. It is funny, exciting and the special effects are amazing. I must say that this is one of the best movies released by Marvel Studios. If you haven't watched the film, I recommend that you watch it. It will exceed your expectations.

If there ever was a herculean task in the history of movies, The Avengers was probably it. But Joss Whedon managed to fulfill every expectation and then some, almost flawlessly, in a way that only he could deliver to the geek masses.
Although simple as they come, the story serves us right, it allows a fairly balanced screen time for most of the main cast, which at this point just owns their characters, with special props to Mark Ruffalo, who gave us a very likable Banner, very different in all aspects to its predecessors. And his alter ego, well… it’s completely fair to say that The Hulk not only has redeemed himself after a long and rocky history in film, but that he completely steals the show in each shot he’s in, providing surprisingly some of the most hilarious scenes in the movie.
The special effects don’t stay back, with some of the most brilliant CG we’ve seen in the Marvel movies; and although not especially memorable, the soundtrack blends well and gives an extra weight to the scenes here and there.
And with an after (middle?) credits scene that leaves us in the middle of geek nirvana, waiting, craving for Avengers 2, I’m sure I won’t be the only one going to the cinema over and over again to marvel myself with this unbelievable rewarding movie.

This film delivered in every way. Story, humor, action, fanboy nods, it's all here and beyond any expectations I had before watching. Every character has their time to shine, but personal favorites of mine such as Hulk and Loki were beyond amazing. This is the definitive comic book film, and possibly one of the most memorable films of our generation.

The Avengers is a magnificent culmination of a film franchise over 10 years in the making. Beautifully shot, expertly written and featuring the biggest superhero action scenes to date, it exceeded every pre-conceived expectation. Director Joss Whedon has accomplished the seemingly impossible. His script is lavished with relative dialogue and realistic character dynamics that pull you right into his story and doesn't let go until the very end. It is the pinnacle of superhero movies, a wild ride, and a welcome return to summer blockbuster movies infused with a higher level of emotional connection.
