The best actor in this film is Cruise, who embodies his ridiculous character. Hough and Boneta are painful to watch and really bring down the entertainment value. However, this is supposed to e a fun, cheesy popcorn flick and it does its job. The music is catchy and the visuals are great, it just isn't good enough to want to pay a movie ticket price to go see it.

Although necessarily campy and blatantly theatrical, this stage to screen adaptation loses a lot of it's heart during the transition. Tom Cruise, Alec Baldwin and Russel Brand give entertaining and often hilarious performances while Mary J Blige adds some much needed soul to the mostly flat falling songs. Unfortunately it was the two main characters (played by Julianne Hough and newcomer Diego Boneta) that really caused my interest to wane with their cringe worthy line delivery and forced romance. But if you can look past that you may find a fun guilty pleasure film worth watching.
