Based on the Marvel Comic Book by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, the film follows the story of Peter Parker (Maguire) who lives in Queens, New York with his beloved Aunt May (Harris) and Uncle Ben (Robertson). Peter leads the life of a normal student, working as a photographer at the school paper, pining after the beautiful Mary Jane Watson (Dunst) and hanging out with buddy Harry Osborn (Franco).

And if this wasn't enough for the super hero, a new enemy is thrown into the midst of his life. Dr. Otto Octavius, one of Peter's mentors, is involved in a freak scientific accident that deforms his body and warps his mind.
