Rating:
Hugo tells the story of an orphan boy living a secret life in the walls of a Paris train station. With the help of an eccentric girl, he searches for the answer to a mystery linking the father he recently lost, the ill-tempered toy shop owner living below him and a heart shaped lock, seemingly without a key. Based on Brian Selznick’s award winning and imaginative New York Times bestseller, The Invention of Hugo Cabret, this magical tale is Academy Award-winner Martin Scorsese’s first film shot in 3D.

the movie was a let-down for me. 3/5. I expected more but the dreary atmosphere and useless characters like Christopher Lee just bogged down the horrid pacing. Kingsley was amazing and Cohen was intriguing, but there just wasn't enough here for me.
Average at best IMO
Upupandaway
One can really tell that this was a work of love from Scorsese. Everything from the colors to depth of field looks as if were painstakingly realized (even though I saw it in 2D). Asa Butterfield, Chloe Moretz, and all of the other actors pull off great performances, but it was Sir Ben Kingsley's subtle and endearing portrayal of a film legend fallen from grace that steals the show.

My favorite film of the year, hands down.

Director Martin Scorsese has perfectly blended a story of imagination and cinematic nostalgia. Crafted with eloquence and heart from beginning to end, Hugo proves that a film based on a children's book can bring to life the whimsical dreams of an adult audience.
