BATMAN RETURNS
Tagline:
The Bat, The Cat and The Penguin
Release Date: Friday, June 19, 1992
In the first sequel to his 1989 Batman, Tim Burton takes us on a darker ride than before as a deformed baby boy is thrown into Gotham City's river by his horrified parents. Thirty-three years later, the child, resurfaces as the hideous Penguin (Danny DeVito), leader of the Red Triangles. Penguin blackmails Max Shreck (Christopher Walken) into helping him discover the identity of his parents. When Penguin learns his birth name, Oswald Cobblepot, he becomes a sympathetic figure to the city. Shreck hatches a plan to recall Gotham City's current mayor and elect Cobblepot in his place, in order to cement his control over the city. Batman (Michael Keaton) is unconvinced by the Penguin, believing that he and his gang are responsible for several child murders. Selina Kyle (Michelle Pfeiffer), discovers the true nature of his plans but is thrown from a window by Shreck to keep her quiet.
Not killed by the fall, Selina is saved by several cats. She returns home, designs a costume, and transforms into Catwoman. No longer meek, Selina sets out to take whatever she chooses and when Batman stops her she teams with the Penguin in an effort to rid Gotham of him. Batman exposes the Penguin's villainous ways, thereby ruining his political chances and the Penguin mounts an attack to kill all of Gotham's first-born infants.
