The third film of the franchise sees many changes as; Tim Burton moves to Producer and makes way for Joel Schumacher to put his stamp on the highly successful comic adaptation, Michael Keaton is dropped for Val Kilmer in the lead roll and Robin makes his first appearance by way of Chris O'Donnell.

Batman (Val Kilmer) has to take on Two-Face (Tommy Lee Jones) and the Riddler (Jim Carrey) as the two team up to rob Gotham of all their thoughts. Two-Face blames Batman for his scarred face and Edward Nygma is out for revenge after being embarrassed and turned down on a business proposition by Bruce Wayne. Nygma's device was intended to push television directly into the individual's brain waves but has the added side effect of allowing Nygma to steal the user's memories/thoughts.

Bruce, while on a date with Dr. Chase Meridian (Nicole Kidman), witnesses the death of Dick Grayson's (Chris O'Donnell) parents. Relating to the young man, Bruce offers to take him in. Curious as to where Bruce is always slipping off to, Dick sneaks into the Bat Cave and discovers Bruce's secret. He convinces Bruce to allow him to become his partner and the two go after Riddler and Two-Face.
